Integration with Etsy and Kiva.org

We are running some experiences with the sponsor module located on the homepage. Up to now, that module was mainly fed with content coming from Amazon. People have been asking for more diversity and better targeting (the targeting is working well if you are logged in to amazon and allow feedly to integration with the amazon recommendation engine but so so otherwise).

Today we are making a few steps towards the diversity part: As part of 1.2.196, you should see the sponsor module offer more divers amazon products and also integrate content from Etsy and Kiva.org. Note: as mentioned earlier, this is an experiment: we do not receive any revenue from Etsy and Kiva.org. We selected those two services because we find them inspiring. Here is what the integration looks like:

We are working in the next 12 weeks to make the sponsor module more configurable: offering more sources and allowing you to parametrize each source (example: I like the most gifted games from amazon but hate the toys, etc..).

We will also offer an knob so that people who are passionately allergic to ads can opt out of the experiment.
