Lesson Learned: HD Intro Video

As part of the 2.0 release, we are adding a 1-minute intro video to the feedly welcome process. We recently ran into the tweetie teaser video and liked the format so that was our source of inspiration. We used a Mac tool called ScreenFlow to capture and assemble the pieces. We used the Vimeo HD help to learn about the best settings for exporting the video in the highest quality.

Regarding hosting the video, we experimented with YouTube, Facebook and Vimeo. All three allow to upload HD videos. At the end we decided to use YouTube because it was the only one who allowed the embedding of HD video (which was important to us because we want to keep the user focused on the feedly welcome process). Facebook did not allow for embedding of HD video and inserts a pretty large white facebook logo on the video. Vimeo seemed to offer higher quality but required a pro account ($69 per year).

Lesson Learned: In our case, YouTube > Vimeo > Facebook.
