Google Closure vs. YUI Compressor

We did some comparisons between YUI Compressor and Google Closure using some of the feedly files:

10101_fx-app_4927.js:  closure -> 512K vs. yui min -> 528K (+4%)

10101_fx-base_4927.js: closure -> 328K vs yui min -> 360K ( +10%)

10101_fx-core_4927.js: closure -> 440K vs yui min -> 480K (+10%)

Conclusion: both products are excellent. Google Closure ends up generating a file which is 5-10% smaller than the files generated by YUI compressor. We are going to change our build system to use Closure for a little while.

Note: I like the option in YUI to ask the compiler to break lines after 350 characters. Helps a lot on the support front.

    1. Thanks for the heads up. Couple of notes: 1) the content on S3 is versioned to be static (ie never change) so a 2 year expiration header is enough. No need to etags. 2) feedly mini is too small for benefiting from gzip compression.

    1. Hi Steve. Nice to meet you. I tried to reply to your Firefox review. That will hopefully provide some context about how feedly works. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
