Feedly for Android – version 14.1 release candidate

Special thanks to the community for helping hammer out the bugs. We think that we have a 14.1 release candidate:

Change log:
1) Users do not need to login over and over again.
2) Better title only view (on both 4″, 7″ and 10″ formats).
3) Brought back the old list view.
4) Better support for Hebrew and Farsi.
5) Titles are no longer cut off on iPhone 4
6) Better support for flaky network connections.
7) Lots of small bug fixes.

To report an issue, just leave a comment or send an email to edwin@feedly.com. If no P0 bug is reported against this build over the next 24 hours, we will push it to the Google Android Store!

Here are some instructions on how to install this release candidate build:
1) Un-install the existing version of the feedly application
2) Go to Settings > Security and check the “Unknown sources” option
3) Open the browser and navigate to http://s3.feedly.com/private/feedly-14.1.3.apk
(this should start the download of the new feedly android app. If it does not, you
might want to try to dropbox the build to yourself)
4) Go to notification panel and wait until the download is complete.
5) Install the app

Thank you for helping us make feedly a better product.

  1. I would love to know why we always end up having to login to the web version of Feedly everytime we close or restart our browser.

      1. There aren’t any that I have found in regards to this. Hopefully they push out a release that won’t ask us to login all the time.

        1. Yes. There is a bug on the desktop too. As soon at Mobile 14.1 is out of the gate, we are going to focus on desktop and do a bug hunt there. -Edwin

      2. Yes I’ll add the silent autoicn to the second design like the first but do you want to use a 3 color or do you want to go with four and use a bright white- I need confirmation on which design you want and how many colors before I can print films thanks

  2. Thanks for resolving several bugs and also improving the overall navigation workflow for Android. But my 2 reported bugs from beta 2 look still present on 14.1.3. Perhaps screen capture will better explain them.

There is some problem with the switching of THEME.

    1. Launch with Day theme on. The horizontal separator is in light grey.

    2. Menu > Settings > Switch Theme

    3. Night theme showing horizontal separator in bright white which I think is wrong.

    4. Close app and relaunch app.

    5. Night theme showing horizontal separator in light grey which I think is the correct one.

    6. Menu > Settings > Switch Theme

    7. Day theme showing horizontal separator in dark black which I think is wrong.

I will write on the second bug in another comment.

  3. This is the bug I found which is brought forward from earlier beta to 14.1.3. I thought this is a CRITICAL bug. Let me know if need further more details on how to replicate this problem if the below is not sufficient.

Articles if set to unread using Feedly Android are now not possible to toggle back to “Unread”.

From my earlier comment (http://blog.feedly.com/2013/04/07/feedly-for-android-version-14-1-release-candidate/comment-page-1/#comment-74308), you should see my feeds on my Android.

Screen capture on Feedly Chrome (http://d.pr/i/RSq) reveal it’s now not possible to unread an article now. The “Mark as unread” option is MISSING!

The following could be the replication steps.

    1. When there are unread items.
    2. Make sure “Auto mark as read” is checked.
    3. Go to “All”.
    4. Swipe up .. up .. until you see “All is done..”. Good so far because all previous items are read. Feedly Chrome reflect all as read too.
    5. Feedly Chrome able to toggle Read/Unread.
    6. Make sure no unread items.
    7. Close and relaunch Feedly Android.
    8. “All” section show “All read”.
    9. Refresh Feedly Chrome.
    10. Try to toggle Read/Unread articles. Not possible now!

For now, I shall switch to the Google Play version for new incoming articles to confirm if this problem exists only in this unreleased Android version.

      1. hinchun. Thanks for the detailed review. This is something we are thinking about. It is not clear yet how the new feedly will deal with mark as unread (this has a lot of caching implications on the server – very costly to implement). Of of the options we are explore is to allow only a local undo or suggest to users that they might have to use save for later. Work in progress. Will hopefully clarify itself in v15.

I want to take the time to thank you for all the help you provided over the last 3 days: your feedback was always very detailed and extremely helpful. We are luck to have you as part of the community.

Enjoy the rest of the week end.

        1. Sure! Anyway, I just tested and it is on 14.0.9 too. So I guess this is not a new problem on 14.1.3.

14.1.3 is very good for release!

        2. I’m not sure I understand how it is possible to mark posts unread on a browser but this is too much storage for the mobile versions? Also, what will happen when Google Reader goes away and you have to transfer all our feeds over anyhow? Will that be too much server space as well?

I just decided to make the switch to Feedly, but if I can’t mark posts I skim through as unread on my phone, I will be looking for another app. I’m a blogger; commenting is part of my community. I need a way to remember to come back to posts later to comment on them without having to save them (which is posts I want to remember for reference). This is a deal-breaker for me.

          1. I’m biding my time and looking for the best new home to move from gReader. Feedly looks great and I’m running it on my Android phone and two tablets (and Chrome browser on desktop). The inability to mark as unread on Android is a big loss (for similar reasons to Pomegranateranate). The fact that it can be done on desktop seems an odd contradiction. I hope you can fix this soon.

            1. Yeah, marking articles as unread when I’ve just skimmed them and want to follow up on them later is one of my most common activities on Reader and a requirement for me for any replacement.

    1. 1. I would love to use feedly app in my iphnoe2. Skinning would be awesome in web application3. better digest/coverI have been using feedly for almost 6-7 months. Initially used it with FF3, now with Chrome.I have 3 main cagetories with 8 feeds. I keep changing them occassionally. But 5 of the feeds are constant. (I can’t manage or read more feeds . I looking for the day to use feedly for iphnoe. All the best !!!

    3. Thanks so much for giving evryenoe remarkably splendid possiblity to read articles and blog posts from this site. It is usually so terrific and also stuffed with a good time for me personally and my office friends to visit the blog really three times in 7 days to study the new tips you have. 4. I’m commenting to let you know what a heflpul encounter my friend’s child gained visiting yuor web blog. 4. Please create a DUAL-PANE view with titles on the left and posts on right, like Google Reader Android.

    1. Interesting suggestion. Please add it to feedly.uservoice.com so that it does not get lost and the community can up vote it. -Edwin

  5. Hi, I use Feedly in Title Only view with Oldest First, but the order of items in the Android app is different than in Chrome. In Chrome they are in the correct chronological order, the same order as in Google Reader. In the Android app items appear almost in the same order, but slightly different, with some items in seemingly random positions.

  6. You’re awesome! Now that Favourite Sharing Tool bug is fixed! :D
I still cannot use the phone’s menu button to access the sidebar more than once, though.

  7. Are there any intensions to preload articles so I can view them even when I’m offline? I often find myself in the subway wanting to read an article but have to wait minutes until I get it to download. Maybe a combination of pocket/instapaper?

  8. Hi from Belgium Feedly team. ;)
This version looks great. Just 3 issues found but not only related to the last Beta:
    1. Using the back button on the list of feeds will fully close the app. (the home button just put it on background)
    2. When checking Today feeds, I don’t have the Mark all as read from at the end. No way to put all as read except manually.
    3. Some titles are cut off, but I don’t see any logic in there… I will have a look closer to this when I I’ll see some new…

I am also testing many other feeds apps, and just to let you know that I really like the way feeds appear on Google Flux. (like g+ or g now) Nice to have… ;) See you…

  9. Please make sure to include the full version number in Google play updates so we know whether those updates are newer than betas and RCs we install manually.

  10. Hi, there is no hope to see a unread number in the firefox app icon? There is in chrome, now i’m using firefox and i have to open a lot the site to see if there is new feeds. Its a little irritating XD

  11. On 10.1 tablet.

Landscape view will end up showing just the Title. Snippet, Category and Time not showing.

    Portrait view no such problem.

  12. Great! This release gone to PlayStore!

Please, for next version, enable this option:

    – Auto-disable HD in youtube videos for mobile data users!

    Thx 4 feedly!

  13. Dear Feedly Team, I really like your app. I always read Feeds. But the latest version is not compatible with Farsi and RTL languages. I hope the next version will be great.

  14. I am surprised with feedly poor support,I think this is my 10th comment but till now, u didnt answer and solve my problem Edwin. dont users important for u? or u closed ur eyes on feedly problems? because iam a power user of google reader and just wanna improve feedly with reporting problems. for the last time I ask u and if u dont answer i will migrate to oldreader or netvibes, I think there will be a better support.

when i click on feedly icon in chrome it redirects to this url in image below.
after 2 weeks I cant open my dashboard!

    1. Don’t get angry. The feedly team is handling more than 3 millions requests now. For just 1 month.
      From Tehran.

      1. Thank u honchun, eventually someone answers me.
I figured it out. download KB SSL ENFORCER chrome extension and switch to http. works right now, really thanx man ;)

        1. after that i enter, the message comes : “Synchronizing feedly v.14.0. Please wait…
          and nothing happens then!
The same problem expain here :

I deleted cookies and now i cant enter the dashboard again!! its really pain in the neck!

how can i force feedly to switch to http instead of https?

          1. Try running Feedly in a clean session in Chrome (no other extensions instaled) and see if you still have those problems. I think KB SSL may be the problem but other extensions could be forcing https:

          2. For the Synchronizing problem there’s nothing you can do. It’s just a problem conecting the server. Just try later as service might be down temporarily due to heavy load or maybe your internet conection is down. In other terms you can also reboot your system. Sometimes (not too often) ports are closed by some service in the OS and can’t get open manually untill you reboot.

            1. thanks jorge for helping, the problem still exists in chrome safe mode, it is alright in firefox.

I click on feedly icon and this comes:

I can provide teamviewer contact if u r expert about this.

              1. Ever tried uninstalling or disabling your extension? If feedly works without the extension, then feedly not at fault.

You may try Firefox feedly too.

                1. Yes i uninstall many times. in chrome safe mode there is no extensions.
In firefox it is okay and works fine.
but in chrome it redirects to https automatically, even when i type http !

                  its not me only!

  15. Glad to see the “titles only” view arrive on Android, but could it be tweaked so as to display only titles (and none of the article body)? The name seems misleading.

  16. I’ve been trying to delete/remove ‘Saved for later’ posts all morning.

Saved from desktop Chrome and viewed on Android 14.1.5

From Chrome it shows deleted/gone/read/ect but from android it still exists. If I try to ‘unsave’ it saves another copy which is able to be ‘unsaved’. Eventually it will show back up on desktop Chrome but is never 100% removed from Android.

  17. Hello! I am not sure how to phrase this exactly, so apologies in advance! Is there a way on the app to show the unread items as a group per blog instead of each individual entry? All of my RSS feeds are uncategorized, so if I select “all” as my default view, it’s showing me all unread items, totally unsorted. My Neatorama is mingling with my Ask Metafilter. Is there a way for it to list all my subscriptions alphabetically, with a number out to the side of how many entries there are (like Google Reader does, obviously!)? If I go to settings and expand the “Uncategorized” it looks about right, but it lists eeeeeverything, even the blogs that don’t have any updates, so it takes a while to scroll through. Thanks!

  18. 16ad635f7I like how you made this article so ierttnseing. I think you are perceptive and talented. I can really appreciate your hard work and your views. Thank you for all this useful and fresh information. 151

  19. I really like your blog.. very nice cloros & theme. Did you design this website yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you? Plz reply as I’m looking to construct my own blog and would like to know where u got this from. cheers

  20. I and also my buddies were alcaulty analyzing the excellent procedures on your website and then unexpectedly got a terrible feeling I never thanked the blog owner for those tips. All of the young men became as a consequence joyful to learn them and have extremely been using them. Thank you for getting very kind and also for picking out such extraordinary subjects most people are really eager to learn about. My personal honest regret for not expressing gratitude to earlier.

  21. When my wife filed her first return years ago, her pternas told her while she was writing her check “don’t forget to write ‘taxes suck’ in the memo section,” and she’d begun writing it before realizing they were only joking.

  22. Before Quotes Chimp can be a smart shopper, you should prepare yourself for the task by learning as much as you can about what you are buying. In order to do so, you will need detailed information about the type of policy you are going to purchase, information on the different companies that sell this type of insurance, and, finally, you should get a handle on who you can buy the insurance from.
