The goal of this document is to help users who have connected their feedly account to their Google Reader account but are not satisfied with the sources they are currently subscribing to in Google Reader (because these subscriptions are old and/or no longer reflecting their interests).
This document assumes that you are running feedly 3.x.305 or higher. You can get the latest version of feedly at http://www.feedly.com
Option #1 | Erasing everything and starting over
If you are not satisfied with any of the sources you are currently subscribing to in Google Reader and would like to start building your feedly from scratch, you can:
1) go to reader.google.com
2) client on settings > reader settings
3) select the subscriptions tab
4) select all the subscriptions and delete them
5) restart your browser
Because you do no longer have any subscription in Google Reader, when you try to access your feedly, feedly will launch the “welcome wizard” and help you find and add your favorite sources.
Option #2 | Spring Cleaning
In this option, you are OK with your list of subscriptions and would like to do some spring cleaning. If you visit the feed Organize Sources page http://www.feedly.com/home#sources you will be able to rename categories, delete sources, organize sources and/or mark the sources you like the most as must reads.
Once you are finished with the spring cleaning, visit your feedly digest http://www.feedly.com/home#my and click on the reload button to see a newly designed digest.
Option #3 | Find+Add new sources
You might be generally happy with your Google Reader subscriptions but wanting to add a few more sources. If so, click on the “add sources” or “+ icon” at the top of the page. The “find+add” panel should appear at the top of the page.
Simply search for new sources to add by keyword (ex: cnn), URL (ex: http://www.techcrunch.com) or by category (example: apple). You can use the #me magic keyword to get a list of source suggestions based on your bookmarks (firefox and chrome only).
Option #4 | OPML import
If you have an OPML file of your favorite sources (for example, something you have exported from Netvibes or Bloglines), here is a way to import it in feedly.
1) go to reader.google.com
2) select settings > reader settings on the top right
3) select the import/export tab
4) upload your OPML file
5) once the upload is complete, restart your browser to see the changed reflected in feedly

I’m missing a feature to integrate my rss feeds which i have within iGoogle. I don’t use Google Reader. I hope this will be added in the future.

How do I subscribe to a website/blog when I have the web address, but Feedly fails to find the blog? I tried to subscribe to http://ohcherie.no/, but had to do it through Reader because I only got “Sorry. No sites found” from Feedly’s “Add website” search bar.

Is there any way to have Feedly by default open to one of my categories? Some of the feeds I follow may have NSFW content, so they go in different categories. I’d like to have Feedly open to one of the SFW categories, but all I see for startup options are “All”, “Today”, and “Index” (whose functionality is not clear to me).
I think the Feedly layout and organization may have the potential to be better than Reader, but it will take a LOT of getting used to. To date, I’ve not been a fan of the “magazine” style layouts. I prefer to see a list of post titles so that I can quickly skim and determine what I want to read and in what order. I also prefer the static, user-determined order to my blogs and/or folders in the left nav pane because I know exactly where to look for the blog I wanted to read (or revisit an article from). Given the Feedly order is apparently by total new entries and/or whatever other system, I need to do a massive house cleaning and reorganization before I even have a chance of adjusting to the new UI.
However, for the above reasons, it’s easier/faster for me to do this in Google Reader. I did a bit of folder renaming and reorganization of feeds earlier today and Feedly never updated. Your site indicates a two-way sync with Google Reader, but I tried closing the tab, reopening, refreshing…everything I could think of to get the new folder/label names to show, etc. Ultimately I had to sign out and apparently re-initiate the connection to Google. Is this normal? This doesn’t appear to be two-way sync (and I did these activities several hours apart, so I figured I gave it enough time to update).

Haven’t tried feedly yet – i’ll do right after posting. These days, isn’t the No#1 scenario for feedly to import the google reader feeds and to cut them free? How does this work? We all need a solution for the time after June…
My main concern is the ability to publish my Feedly account so I can share it with coworkers. The only email that goes to everyone I need to share it with is a group list, not an actual account, so I’m unable to associate a Feedly account with that (that I’ve been able to identify). Any feedback on either of these options?

I imported my data to feedly some months ago and since then continued to use google reader. meanwhile I unsubscribed some feeds and so on and have a ton of unread stuff on there, and when I logged in to feedly the information I’m getting is different. the subscriptions are not updated as well as the unread stuff. I trying deleting my account to start all over again once reader doesn’t exist anymore, but can’t. so I’m left with this unevenness really annoying.

Feedly, I do appreciate your attempt at recreating the functionality of Google Reader. Honestly and truly I do. But I wholehearted agree with the sentiments expressed in these comments.
WHY would I want to go through Google to create an account? Look, Google just screwed all of us RSS users big-time. Frankly Google has started acting like a bunch of prima-donna a$$holes. Everything they do is directed at increasing market penetration of G+, and to hell with all the users. I don’t WANT to have a google account, and am slowly disengaging any dependence on google-sponsored services.
I just dumped the XML of my feed listing and I’m ready to send it to you and start a FEEDLY account. Google has given us the big kiss-off. Let us do the same to them.

I do not have a google account nor will I get one; I personally have issues with google’s privacy and transparency travesties. They definitely do not abide by their own “do no harm” code.
My google reader is not syncing with feedly. I have the OPML file, but all my subscriptions are already in google reader, but not in feedly. Could you guys delete my account so that I can re-sync?
I’m not impressed with Feedly. Like the comment above, It’s not showing ANY of my feeds. I can see them in reader, but not Feedly is empty. In my case, I exported my feeds from an old Gmail account and imported them into my primary Gmail account. Google Reader shows them immediately. No problems. But Feedly is blank. The problem may be that I inadvertently logged into Feedly before I had imported my feeds into Google Reader… Whatever it is, it’s maddening that 1) it’s not working, 2) I couldn’t just import the OPML file through Feedly directly, 3) there’s no clear way to start over, and 4) I can’t even find a good way to get in contact you with. (You say that users can leave a comment, but you sure don’t seem to be responding to people’s comments. Overall, it hasn’t been a good first impression. Good to know there are (and will be) many other options for managing feeds
same problem as above, deleted all my subscriptions on my google reader account and tried to reupload to feedly and still not matching at all, i’ve got years of IT background so no tech idiot here and this feedly thing simply is not re-uploading the current google reader. going to try for about 15 more minutes before going with something that at least has the option of manually uploading the OPML file

I am not into icons but i understand you are into RSS alpticapion development. I was thinking the other day to write a desktop RSS reader(well web based also makes sense afterall). How are you planning/done the caching of feeds. Lets assume that i defined folders (science/technology) and RSS feeds are sub-node. When user clicks on a feed it will show a listview with the news items, parsed from the XML. But the next time i check for the rss feed what happens? Am i supposed to cache the previous XML, collect new one and compare if there is a new item mark it as bold? If yes do I have to maintain a big XML(for each feed) locally that updates itself after each new retrieval? If yes again then perhaps i need a custom tag in this xml to store the status of read, the folder(child, parent) it belongs to etc.Am i making any sense or lost the case?

I login using my google credential and my feedly is empty!! I was late to this party and just started using Feedly today, but already I’m frustrated. All your instructions for migrating to Feedly tell me to either log in to Google Reader and import/export OPML files, or to just log in to Feedlt using my Google credentials and watch the magic happen. But there is no longer an option to log in Google Reader, and my My Feedly page is empty. Please, what do I do?
I’m with this guy. I’ve started looking at alternatives today, but none of these directions apply. I do have the OPML file, but there doesn’t seem to be an “upload” button anywhere.

However, I can get there through FireFox and the app still works on my android.

Hi – the feeds that are currently in my feedly are left over from my Google Reader. I have been using another feed reader for more than a year and want to use that list of feeds in feedly, not the feeds that are currently in my feedly (leftover from Google Reader). How can I delete all the feeds that are showing in my feedly now, so I can upload my current feeds as an opml file? I have exported the current GReader-based list of feeds in feedly so I have a back up. I just want to start fresh, and it would take hours to delete them one at a time.
